Though the science of hiding a message within a host carrier dates back to ancient Greeks or even before, data hiding technology has been revitalized starting from mid-1990s [8, 23] when the possibility of hiding a message within a host digital signal (an audio file, a still image, a video sequence, or a combination of the above) began to be seen as a viable solution for copyright protection of multimedia data. To embed the hidden information in the host signal, data hiding techniques apply some imperceptible modifications to the host content, with the modifications being related to the to-be-embedded information. The hidden information can be retrieved afterwards from the modified content. From a general perspective, data hiding technology allows to establish a communication channel multiplexed into original content , through which it is possible to transmit some information from a sender to a receiver. The meaning and use of the hidden information strongly depend on the application at hand.
