ABSTRACT

Non-repudiation is a security service that creates, collects, validates, and maintains cryptographic evidence, such as digital signatures, in electronic transactions to support the settlement of possible disputes. By providing non-repudiation services in electronic commerce, transacting parties will have more confidence in doing business over the Internet. Non-repudiation has been an important research area since the early 1990s when electronic commerce emerged on the Internet [26, 33, 34, 35]. In this chapter, we will investigate the fundamental aspects of non-repudiation, discuss the approaches for securing digital signatures as valid non-repudiation evidence, present typical fair non-repudiation protocols, and extend non-repudiation to multi-party application scenarios.
