Overview Work domain analysis characterizes the constraints and affordances in a domain. Subsequent analyses are required to uncover the work situations and task functions that arise in the domain, the range of strategies available to accomplish task functions, and the strategies actually used by domain practitioners that lead to effective and ineffective performance. Within the Cognitive Work Analysis (CWA) framework, control task analysis is conducted to uncover what needs to be accomplished, and strategies analysis is conducted to obtain a “process” description of how it can be accomplished (Vicente, 1999). This chapter provides an introduction to strategies analysis.
