ABSTRACT

In the “Knowledge Management Barometer Study,” conducted in 2007 by the Federal German Ministry of Economics and Technology, a key conclusion was that knowledge management would continue to be a highly relevant topic over the next few years in Germany, Hong Kong, Denmark, France, the United States, Great Britain, and other countries. Part of the reason for this trend is the relationship of knowledge management (KM) to succession planning. KM should lead to workforce development and succession planning. According to the November 2006 Aberdeen Group Report, 73% of the companies surveyed have a plan or have budgeted to start one within a year; however, 27% still didn’t have a succession plan. Thus, room exists for knowledge management to contribute to succession planning.
