ABSTRACT

Between 1888 and 1891, eleven female victims were murdered in the Whitechapel area of London. At the time it was not known which of the crimes had been committed by the same killer. To date, there is still wide debate about which victims can be attributed to the same murderer. Following the surmise of some investigators at that time (Evans & Skinner, 2000, p. 585), it has been frequently cited that the same assailant committed ve of the known Whitechapel murders (Abrahamsen, 1992; Begg, Fido, & Skinner, 1996; Canter, 2003; Evans & Gainey, 1998; Fido, 1993; Gordon, 2001; Smithkey, 1998; Sugden, 2002).
