ABSTRACT

Optical nanostructures are everywhere in the world around us. To give just a few examples, the bright white color of paint, sunscreen, and toothpaste, the black of soot, and the brilliant colors of butterfly wings and holograms on credit cards are all due to optical nanostructures. To broaden the field even more, everything that you see that has a matte appearance, that is, is not shiny, appears that way because it is scattering light and has a nanoscale optical structure.
