7.1 RADIATION SITES
Radionuclides in various chemical and physical forms have become extremely important tools in modern business, industry, research, and teaching. Radioactive materials are incorporated in many manufactured goods and used in a myriad of industrial services. Use of radioactive materials generates radioactive waste. The ionizing radiations emitted by these materials and wastes, however, can pose a hazard to human health. For this reason, special precautions must be observed when radionuclides are used.
