ABSTRACT
Th e Nigeria Police is one of the legacies associated with British colonial rule in Nigeria. Th e Nigerian nation became an independent country on October 1, 1960. Prior to this period, the fi rst ever presence of the then British empire was the annexation of Lagos in 1849 through the Chartered Royal Niger Company. And by 1900, the British government revoked the charter granted to the Royal Niger Company and took over the direct administration of its Lagos colony.
