ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a number of novel applications of two commercially available shape-memory polymers (SMPs), namely, a thermoplastic polyurethane SMP from Mitsubishi Heavy Industry, Japan, and a thermo-set polystyrene SMP from Cornerstone Research Group, United States, that are not well covered in the previous chapters of this book. The basic concepts and prototypes of most of these have been demonstrated in our research group. Also discussed are the major concerns that researchers and engineers should pay attention to in utilizing SMPs for real engineering applications and future research/application directions of SMPs.
