ABSTRACT

The VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) technology has now made the availability of very powerful personal computers, desktop or laptop variety, within reach of every network designer and planner. However, the lack of a user-friendly software for network design and planning had prevented the network managers from making use of the latest desktop hardware. Several new software packages have been created to make use of the new PC hardware platforms. The author has developed one such package called EcoNets as fully described in Reference 1. We will make use of EcoNets later and show how the network planning, design, and optimization process can be simplified to a level unimagined before. In fact, EcoNets can now be

treated as a new type of scientific calculator bringing simplicity and ease of use to every networking specialist.
