ABSTRACT

Nearly a decade ago it was once quipped that deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) diagnostics was a technology looking for a market. It was implied that DNA diagnostics was too expensive to compete with existing technology. Today, DNA diagnostics is starting to penetrate the diagnostics market, but the penetration is still very small. Nevertheless, despite the challenging market hurdles, DNA diagnostics has enormous potential if the technical issues can meet the market challenges. Many biotech companies continue to be long-term players in the DNA diagnostics arena despite the fact that the road to pro ts has been long and rough. Owing to the enormous potential of DNA diagnostics,

however, it is not a question of “if,” but only a question of “when” the technology will own a substantial share of the diagnostics market.
