ABSTRACT
Australia, like many Western democratic countries, has embraced the concept of community policing. Through their individual annual reports and strategic plans, eight Australian police jurisdictions pledge their commitment to community policing. Police commissioners emphasis the importance of being in partnership with the community and publicly commit themselves to actively involving the community in preventing and reducing crime. Police ministers talk about engaging the community and establishing partnerships to achieve a safer, more secure community (APMC, 2005).
