ABSTRACT

Whenever certain circumstances suggest the presence of a basal subarachnoid hemorrhage, the possibility of a vertebral artery lesion must be considered. It should be then either confirmed or ruled out. According to Whitwell and Milory (2005), “The demonstration of the site of rupture in a traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage could be one of the most difficult entities in a postmortem examination. The frequency of demonstration of the rupture will depend on the diligence with which the research is carried out” (pp. 71-81).
