It is well known that communication affects significantly the performance of applications deployed on large scale architectures. Large scale platforms are characterized by a collection of a great number of computing resources that are geographically distributed over some sites and connected with a wide heterogeneous dedicated network. Since data sizes in Grid applications may be large as well as the number of nodes, the collective communication inherent to the applications is a critical bottleneck.
