ABSTRACT

Some drugs are avoided by animals, and by avoided is meant that animals will press a lever when the consequence is the postponement or termination of injections. Table 3.2 lists some agents. These drugs come from several pharmacological classes. Two examples are the ISD-type hallucinogens and the antipsychotics. The antipsychotic drugs are not abused. In fact patient compliance in taking these drugs is poor. The poor compliance may be due to their aversive effects. The avoided drugs, like the reinforcing drugs, come from several pharmacological classes.
