ABSTRACT

For years self-service technology has been utilized throughout the commercial spectrum. We find it in financial organizations in the form of automatic teller machines and in retail establishments and supermarkets in the way of self-checkout. It is used by hotels for checking guests in and out, and airlines utilize it to self-check passengers when they arrive at airports. Food chains are also starting to do bill payment for food up front, such as in Atlantic City, where patrons can pay before they go into a buffet at restaurants in the casino. According to NCR, a global technology company whose main product lines include self-service kiosks, point-of-sale terminals , ATMs, check processing systems, barcode scanners and business comsumables, the self-service movement continues to expand. Their study found that in 2007, 77% of consumers enjoyed using self-service technologies, where in 2008
