ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that simulation analysts should carefully consider the context for their technical work before starting to build a simulation model. It is common for analysts to complain that, though their work was excellent, it was never used or implemented because of what they refer to, somewhat dismissively, as “organizational politics.” Rather than dismiss such politics, which some people regard as part of any organization, it is better to use methods that help an analyst to understand how the power and interests of different stakeholders can affect the outcome of their work.
