Right to Trial by Impartial Jury

The concept of the jury was started by Frankish conquerors and used initially to discover the King’s rights. The jury began in the form of a grand or presentment jury with the role of inquest. Later, Henry II adopted the proceeding to establish royal control over the machinery of justice. The right was first applied in civil trials and later extended to those accused of crimes.
