ABSTRACT

Preservation of historical structures often includes evaluation of timber roof trusses. Satisfactory performance of existing wood truss system in terms of both resistance to applied service loads and longterm response is dependent on wood species, truss proportions and timber connections (Tampone, 2007). Generally, stress concentrations are particularly critical at joints where a component is connected to others, such as those caused by notches (load to angle grain) or other sudden changes in cross section.
