ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT: A dynamic business network is the common type of organisation within the mechanical engineering industry. Owing to the complex structure and temporary business relationships of these networks today’s ERP solutions do not sufficiently support efficient inter-organisational order processing. This paper describes the conceptual basis of Open Resource Planning (ORP), an innovative approach to realise seamless order management within dynamic business networks. Three important components are outlined: a data and process standard for inter-organisational order management within the mechanical engineering industry; a web-based information system; and an innovative Internet business model.
