ABSTRACT

For an accepted probability of corrosion initiation P

α5 21 42 0 05 1 155≈ + ⋅ + ⋅. . .a a

Likewise for P i = 10% and P

α10 21 32≈ +. a

and α 20

5 CONCLUDING REMARKS

A simplified calculation procedure has been developed to calculate the required nominal design cover depth based on mean values for all relevant model parameters, taking into account an assumed statistical variation. This procedure has been exemplified in a case study. Thus, the required concrete quality in terms of a diffusion coefficient according to a laboratory test can easily be derived for a wide range of service lives, critical chloride content, and age factors (equivalent to type of cement). The calculation procedure does not necessitate any probabilistic calculations. This procedure thus also allows results of probabilistic calculations to be checked.
