ABSTRACT

Patients with Parkinson’s syndromes (PD), notwithstanding the etiology of the disease, show combinations of clinical symptoms of rigidity, bradykinesia, akinesia as well as tremor. They also may experience disorder of posture, balance, and gait which often results in falls (Aita, 1982). The Parkinsonian gait is characterized by hypokinesia, associated with a reduction of stride, cadence and increase of stride, stance and double support duration (Knutsson, 1972). Most studies dealing with gait analyses on Parkinsonian patients are undertaken to quantify spatial, temporal and kinematics characteristic of their Parkinsonian gait (e.g. Morris et al., 1998; Zijstra, 1998).
