ABSTRACT
Speech is the most natural means of human communication (Deng et al., 2005). It is of higher interest to develop man-computer interface through speech. According to Cole et al. (1996), voice-enabled technologies that have been developed include:
● speech recognition : the process of converting an acoustic signal, captured by a speech device, to a set of words
● text-to-speech synthesis : the process of converting a sequence of text into a recognizable audio signal
● spoken-language understanding : the process of interpreting the meaning of key words and phrases in a speech string (Rabiner, 2003)
● speaker identification : the identification of a person solely by his/her voice.
