ABSTRACT

Sports apparel is becoming increasingly technical from both a feature and fabric perspective. Advancements in apparel technology have focused mainly on the enhancement of thermoregulation and muscular compression. A propriety technology has now made it possible to ionically treat garments, though benefits afforded to a wearer remain unknown. Existing literature has documented benefits of negatively charged particles via inhalation, in parameters including increased work capacity (Minkh, 1961), favourable haemodynamic (Ryushi et al., 1998), heart rate (Yates et al., 1986) and lactate responses, as well as improvements in various psychological state indices (Fornof & Gilbert, 1988). However conflicting research exists and any mechanisms in action remain unclear.
