ABSTRACT

High-performance golf equipment, especially drivers with a high coefficient of restitution (COR), have contributed to increasing the driving distance and improving the trajectory of golf balls upon impact. Concerned that this high-tech equipment is outdating golf courses and ruining the game, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews together with the United States Golf Association have determined the requirement for players and manufacturers to conform to new rules, setting an upper limit for the COR, thereby disallowing the use of drivers with high CORs. Therefore FE models whose CORs can be precisely estimated are in demand in order to create high-performance golf clubs which can meet these new rules.
