ABSTRACT
Our previous study has reported that the difference between elite and novice golfers was the motion of putter head (Tack 2005, 2006). Putter head control is an important factor at ball impact. For accurate ball impact, the upper extremities looks like a pendulum motion during entire putting phase. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare and analyze angular motion of shoulder, elbow and wrist which has direct effect on putter
head motion. Additionally, it was assumed that there exist smoothness difference between elite and novice golfers during putting. Difference in smoothness between golfers can be quantified by jerk cost function. Since the jerk cost function can be an index for the smoothness of the given movement (Viviani, 1995), the putting stroke between two groups was evaluated by this.
