ABSTRACT

Cricket is a team sport where the focus narrows down to the duel between batsman and bowler for each delivery during a match. In order to execute a shot well a batsman must be able to predict accurately the length, direction and pace of the delivery from the movements of the bowler and his judgment of the initial launch characteristics of the ball. One aim of the bowler is to trick the batsman into playing a false stroke by releasing deliveries with different launch characteristics and similar bowling actions (Renshaw & Fairweather, 2000), thus reducing the information available to the batsman or at least leaving the crucial information as late as possible during the bowling action (Gibson & Adams, 1989).
