ABSTRACT

Analyzing meshes were prepared using MSC.Patran (MSC.Software Inc.) and GAMBIT (Fluent Inc.) from Computer Aided Design Model for a soccer ball (32 ball panels type). The unstructured analyzing meshes used a triangular tetrahedral element and comprised approximately one million units (Fig. 2). The cylindrical space (2.44 m radius 4.88 m length) was used for the analyzing meshes. The initial flow velocity was set at four conditions for this analysis: 15, 20, 25 and 30 m/s. This analysis defined the velocity inlet and the pressure outlet. An incompressible unsteady analysis was performed by digitizing a NavierStokes equation using the finite volume method based on fully unstructured meshes with a commercial CFD code (FLUENT6.2, Fluent Inc.). The turbulent model of this study was Large Eddy Simulation (LES) model.
