ABSTRACT

In order to proceed with the study, a device for launching shuttle must be conceived and developed. Lee & Srinivasan (2004) had developed a badminton shuttle launcher using the lever mechanism for examining the flight of plastic and feather shuttles. However their maximum projection distance was about 3 m. In conceiving the development of a shuttle testing launcher, the kinematics of badminton serve that is used in the current conventional testing had to be quantified so as to provide the performance target of the launching device or the launcher. The developed launcher needs to be tested for consistency in projections. In this study, two types of shuttles made of different materials (a conventional feather shuttle and a synthetic plastic shuttle) were used for this test. The developed launcher was finally assessed to ascertain if it could differentiate shuttles that were categorized according to the conventional testing.
