ABSTRACT

Epidemiological studies have consistently shown that injuries in hockey are numerous and can be serious (Alcock et al., 1997, Fox 1994, Fuller 1990, Jaimson & Lee 1989). Most serious injuries result from being struck by the stick or the ball. Overuse injuries are also frequently reported on mostly foot, ankle and knee (Hering & Nilson 1987, Freke & Dalgleish 1994). To reduce overuse injuries, while training to achieve elite performance, the coaches and trainers should look into the technical execution of skills, and amend techniques as required, so that the likelihood of injuries could be reduced and the athletes would then be in a position to perform the skills efficiently.
