ABSTRACT

This chapter describes how the application of hydrostatic pressure technology offer chances or possibilities within a cancer therapy. There are various possibilities with different chances of success to medicate the cancer which arises from an abnormal development of cells resulting in cancer cells. Whereas the number of cancer diseases appeared quite rarely in the time between antiquity and the 20th century, the number escalated in the beginning of the 20th century. The first studies on the effects of hydrostatic pressures on cells go back to the end of the 19th century. It was only possible to examine the effects on prokaryotes, it took until the middle of the 20th century when research focused on eukaryotes. The DNA content of a cell provides information about its status in the cell cycle, the DNA degradation itself about the apoptosis of the cell. On apoptotic cells, the DNA content decreases whereas on necrotic cells it remains constant.
