ABSTRACT

To generate virtual cloth accurately, it is of great importance that the underlying yarn be accurately visualized. This is true for woven fabric but is especially true for knitted fabrics, where the individual yarns and the yarn-loops contribute significantly to overall appearance. Without considering the fibers and the structure of the material, realistic-looking close-up images cannot be generated. To model the fine and highly detailed structures of yarn and its fibers is a very challenging task. By accomplishing this task, we are able to overcome one of the barriers separating virtual reality from reality.
