The fish tail is usually accompanied with either widening (Fig. 1.10a) or narrowing (Fig. 1.10b) of the workpiece ends. The end portions of the workpiece with the width deviations exceeding the acceptable tolerances are usually cut. The length of the workpiece being cut is known as a crop length.
