ABSTRACT
Two major arrangements of slab sizing mills have been practically implemented, the HVHVH and VHV. The HVHVH arrangement (Fig. 14.8a) was installed on-line with a continuous caster at U.S. Steel Gary Works [9]. The horizontal stands were used to produce high interstand tension that enhanced the edging process. Reductions in both width and thickness were also provided. The capabilities of this slab sizing mill were as follows:

Minimum size of the slab after the sizing mill - thickness:
width: 152 mm (6 in.)
