Widthreductionbypressingisperformedbysqueezingorsizingpressesandisgenerallyaccomplishedby reciprocatedmovementsofthepresstoolsintheplanethatisparalleltotheworkpieceplane.
Theprocessofwidthreductionbypressingistoacertaindegreedependentontherelationship betweenthelengthofthesizingpresstoolandthatoftheslabbeingsubjectedtoareductioninwidth. Fromthisviewpoint,sizingpressescanbedividedintothefollowingtwoprincipalgroups[1]:
a)Long-toolsizingpresseswiththetoollengthL1beinggreaterthantheinitialslablengthas showninFig.15.1a.
