ABSTRACT

During construction the moraine was spread in approximately 0.8m thick layers by a dozer and compacted by 3 to 5 tonne vibratory rollers. In the specifications used in 1950 to 1980 there was usually a requirement to compact the material to a density ratio of >95% Modified Proctor. The range of water contents was between −2% and +2% in relation to the modified optimum water content.
