ABSTRACT
Due to wide use of sensors and diagnostics, the number of alarm messages to be managed by control room operators is usually very high. According to the results of a recent study, [3], the average number of alarms per day expected on an operator station in a European refinery is about 14000, with peaks up to 26000alarmsper day, while the number of alarms actually seen by operators is estimated to be approximately one half.
