ABSTRACT

Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) have become more and more a subject of study because of their contribution to many technical applications. For instance, a SIS may be an air-bag system, a smoke detector or a breaking system to stop a dangerous motion. The role of a SIS is to provide a safety-related function in order to monitor and maintain the safety of any equipment under its control (EUC). To ensure this mission, a SIS is submitted to diagnostic on-line tests and also to periodic inspections.
