A b s t r a c t S i n c e t h e m i d 1 9 6 0 ' s a l m o s t 4 0 0 0 p u b l i c t u b e w e l l s h a v e b e e n c o n s t r u c t e d i n t h e a l l u v i u m o f t h e R i v e r I n d u s i n t h e P r o v i n c e o f S i n d h , P a k i s t a n . T h e s e t u b e w e l l s a r e u s e d f o r i r r i g a t i o n a n d w a t e r t a b l e c o n t r o l . T h e s p e c i f i c c a p a c i t i e s o f s o m e t u b e w e l l s d e c l i n e d r a p i d l y a l t h o u g h d e s i g n s w e r e b a s e d o n s o u n d c o n s t r u c t i o n p r i n c i p l e s .
