ABSTRACT

The Proseriata is a diverse and species-rich taxon of small (1–10 mm long), mostly free-living Platyhelminthes. The vast majority of the Proseriata are typical representatives of the marine interstitial mesopsammon, with slender, cylindrical bodies; burrowing species occur in fine sediments, including mud (Reise 1988). A few globose to drop-shaped, mostly epibenthic taxa are known (e.g. species of Otomesostoma and Monotoplana) (Cannon 1986).
