ABSTRACT

Since they are gleaned from the model of organic evolution, all basic instances of evolutionary algorithms share a number of common properties, which are mentioned here to characterize the prototype of a general evolutionary algorithm: (i) Evolutionary algorithms utilize the collective learning process of a

population of individuals. Usually, each individual represents (or encodes) a search point in the space of potential solutions to a given problem. Additionally, individuals may also incorporate further information; for example, strategy parameters (Sections 16.2 and 32.2) of the evolutionary algorithm.
