ABSTRACT
The classic approach of lamp engineers is that of visual examination. Sometimes this can be difficult because the unwanted events cannot always be reproduced on demand. In our case we make every attempt to capture the offending behavior during operation by a projection of the image of the arc onto a screen. Time based spectro-radiometry of all or part of the beam produced by reflectors lamps also helps elucidate the problem.
