ABSTRACT

The temperature and magnetic field dependencies of magnetic susceptibility (B≤0.5 T, T=4.2-300 K) as well as galvanomagnetic effects (B≤0.1 T, T=4.2-300 K) in n-Pb1-xGexTe (x=0.02-0.17) doped with chromium (Ccr=0.8-3.5 mol.%) under variation of matrix composition and impurity concentration were studied to clear up the correlation between electronic structure and magnetic properties of the alloys. The concentration of magnetic Cr3+ ions was calculated and additional ferromagnetic contribution to the magnetic susceptibility, connected with the formation of ferromagnetic compounds or the exchange Cr-Te-Cr interaction of chromium ions, was revealed. It was shown that an increase of the Ge content in the alloys results in the shift of chromium level from the conduction band to the gap and redistribution of the charge carriers between localized and band states. The diagram of the charge carrier energy spectrum reconstruction in Pb1-xGexTe: Cr alloys was proposed.
