ABSTRACT

This paper intends to summarize on the latest achievements in performance (design issues, power, temperature, cw and pulsed operation, RT concepts) of quantum cascade lasers. Various active region, waveguide, and cavity designs have been demonstrated and optimized. Steady development and searching for new materials and material combinations tend to open new potential markets: Improved and adapted growth and processing techniques make the devices more reliable, increase the accuracy of the target frequency for new designs, and intend to offer competitive pricing.
