ABSTRACT

The silica surface has been widely studied [2-4]. The mechanism of interaction of PDMS chains is contrasted with that of most polymers mixed with carbon black; the main mechanism of interaction of PDMS is through hydrogen bonding of the polymer to the filler through the silanol groups on the silica surface. The enthalpy of interaction of one monomeric unit with the surface is about 10 kJjmol and the interaction may be considered as punctual. The well-defined interaction allows a molecular approach to the description of properties of the adsorbed layer; this interaction will be evoked in Section II.
