ABSTRACT

The effect of film thickness on performance seems to be the same for PE-LLD as for PE-LD. In Fig. 1 it can be seen that this is certainly true for the combination HALS-2-UVA-I for film thickness between 90 and 220 Jlm. The exact law of variation with film thickness has not yet been established. It seems to depend on the stabilization system. However, for a rough estimation, for film thickness between

50 and 250 Jlm, the performance can be considered to increase proportionally to the square root of the thickness. In other terms, if film thickness passes from 50 to 200 Jlm, the film lifetime with the same stabilization system is doubled. Nevertheless, it must always be remembered that this rule of thumb is an approximation and cannot yield exact forecasts for many different stabilization systems.
