ABSTRACT

This research was conducted to determine the effect of high temperature on the mechanical properties of steel fiber reinforced concrete casted using superplasticizer. The main variables taken into consideration were temperature of exposure, the duration of exposure and method of treatment after exposure to high temperature. The tested specimens were divided into two groups. The first group cooled down in air. The second group was quenched in water to cool down, then left in the laboratory atmosphere for one day before testing. Visual inspection was carried out with special attention to change in colour of concrete and occurance of hair cracks. Tests for compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength and modulus of elasticity were carried out on all specimens.
