ABSTRACT

Polyester resin mortar has proved itself to be a more durable and high strength material than ordinary cement concrete / mortar. In order to improve its ductility, glass fibres are generally used to reinforce the matrix. Investigations were carried out by the authors to evaluate the properties of this mortar, particularly, to find out its suitability for applications in aggressive environment. Tests to evaluate the Chemical resistance of resin mortars containing different percentage of chopped and E glass fibres were also carried out. Nine types of chemicals were used in these tests. The paper describes the details of laboratory investigations carried out on a number of Glass Fibre Reinforced Resin Mortar (GFRRM) specimens and highlights the relative superiority of GFRRM over conventional cement mortar in resisting aggressive chemical environs.
