where L signifies the total chord length measured between the two inside surfaces of flange plates welded at both ends of each chord, and H signifies the distance between the centres of the upper and lower chords. Definitions of the longitudinal gap g , the transverse gap g[ and the eccentricity e are identical to those in the previous papers by the authors (e.g. Kurobane et al. (1989)). In Fig. I, all the members and joints are numbered following the rules: VI, V2 .. designate the upper chords; Ll, L2 .. , the lower chords; WI, W2 .. , the braces (the web members); and KI, K2 .. , the joints.
