ABSTRACT
The National Chemical Emergency Centre (NCEC) was established in 1973 by the Department of the Environment and the Home Office and forms part of the National Environmental Technology Centre, itself part of AEA Technology. This chapter is based on previous work by the author1,2 and by the Founder of the NCEC3,4 and describes the origin, development and functions of the NCEC.
